INSTRUCTIONS FOR 2007 DR. JIM AYERS Young Investigators Award
Students please submit papers by May 31, 2007.
To be eligible for the Young Investigator Award the following criteria must be met:
The student must be currently enrolled or must have graduated no earlier than December 2006.
The student must be a member of GAFP.
The student must submit an original and three copies of an extended abstract.
The extended abstract must include: objective, methodology, results, and significant new findings, and implications of their research.
Extended abstracts should be no more than 4 pages, double spaced, for the written portion; figures and tables should be included in an appendix.
Recipients must present paper at the IAFP Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL in July 8-11, 2007. Only papers accepted for presentation at IAFP will be considered for the award.

A panel will judge abstracts and recipients will be notified by June 10, 2007. The awards will be presented at the September 2007 GAFP meeting.
MESSAGE FROM OSCAR GARRISON, GAFP PRESIDENT
It has been my pleasure serving as President this year. I want to thank all of the officers for their time and dedication to this organization and their support of me as President. I would also like to personally thank Pam Metheny and Mark Norton for helping keep me on track this year. Pam and Mark’s dedication and commitment to this organization made my job as President a truly great experience. I look forward to continuing to serve GAFP as Past President this upcoming year
The September 2006 meeting at Gold Kist was a success. Thanks to all of our sponsors, members, speakers, and attendees that made that meeting possible. Our 20th anniversary meeting is planned for February15, 2007 at the Chick-fil-A corporate headquarters in Atlanta the site of our first official meeting in 1987. Dr. Hal King will become our new President. Tonya Gray has put together an excellent program and I look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

UGA MASTER’S PROGRAM IN FOOD TECHNOLOGY
A program designed for a Master’s in Food Technology (MFT), to provide food professionals in the Atlanta area with an opportunity to earn an advanced degree from the University of Georgia. Administered and taught by University of Georgia Department of Food Science and Technology faculty and others, courses will be offered evenings and Saturdays for the convenience of working professionals who wish to learn and earn an advanced degree to help them in their work and careers.
Admission to the degree program requires an application and admission to the University Graduate School. Students may take up to three courses prior to formal admission or may take courses for no credit at all!
